The LCD panel has a transparent area (opening) and a lightproof area such as the wiring area.
This is a technology that concentrates the light onto the opening to enable as much light as possible to penetrate the panel. Lenses with nearly the same size as a pixel are packed on an incident-side substrate. With this technology, brightness of panels with smaller openings was improved between 1.5 and 1.6 fold.
