Environmental Initiatives in Epson's Electronic Device Division
At Epson, we design and manufacture products with the aim of reducing the burden on the environment throughout the product lifecycle by applying an LCA* approach.
*LCA (Life cycle assessment)Tools for quantifying environmental impacts (global warming impacts) in a product's life
cycle and for efficiently and accurately exposing areas whose design should be improved
Products
- Low power consumption
- Miniaturization
- Environmental patent applications
- Compliance with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive)
- Reduced packaging through the use of returnable containers and simplified packing
Green factory
- Chemical substance management
We control and proactively work to reduce emissions of PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register) chemicals, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds ).
- Zero emissions
Our zero emissions programs have been successful in achieving 100% recycling of all waste material (excluding personal wastes), and reducing resource inputs by keeping an eye out for opportunities to reuse a factory's waste on-site as an ingredient in the manufacturing process.
- Global warming prevention
A wide range of activities are being carried out with the aim of reducing the emissions of CO2 and other global warming gases.
<Examples>
- Reduction in energy use
- Reductions in CO2 emissions from transportation
- Conversion to new forms of energy
Natural gas, solar power facilities, fuel cell facilities
- Water usage reduction
We have endeavored to reduce water usage in the workplace by thoroughly
reviewing the production process, and recycling and reusing water within the
manufacturing plants.
- Green purchasing
When choosing the parts and raw materials that make up our products, we give preference to lower-impact alternatives.
Others
- ISO14001 Certification
- Environmental training
- Community engagement
